Portland Dive to the Pearl PearlDive01copy

This is going to be a hybrid downhill/push race, starting at the highest point in Portland, Council Crest park, about 1000 feet in elevation, ending in the Pearl District at Jameson Park. We will group cruise down to the start at the top of Dosch at Patton. There will be 3 turns you will need to remember, I will mark them as well as possible with sidewalk chalk so you don't miss them.

Portland Dive to the Pearl PearlDive-1

First off you will be bombing about 1 mile down Dosch road, it will be all downhill, there is 1 four-way stop sign a couple hundred feet before the mile ends. After the stop sign the grade steepens significantly and you will be taking a left onto Sunset Blvd.

Sunset goes uphill for 100 feet or so and then flattens out. You will be on Sunset Blvd for 1 mile, towards the end of the mile it will slope downhill and you will be taking a left onto Pendleton not long after.

Pendleton goes over a hump and then runs into an unmarked 4 way intersection, I will mark a straight path across with sidewalk chalk to make it easier. You will be going straight across the intersection onto Cheltenham St.

Cheltenham St. is rough with lots of holes, patching and blind corners. There is a seasonal creek crossing one of the corners. Overall it is downhill, but it's never consistent. You will be on Cheltenham about 3/4 of a mile before it comes to a T stop sign onto Terwilliger, you will be taking a left on Terwilliger.

Terwilliger will be uphill for a few hundred feet before going downhill. There is a narrow, rough bike lane, with lots of grates that take up the whole lane, along with an actual paved, blacktop path parallel to the road. It has lots of blind corners, joggers and dangerous babies all over the place. You will be on Terwilliger for a little over 2 miles. It is mostly downhill with 2 significant uphill/flats. At around 2 miles the grade steepens and you drop down above Portland. The road runs into a T with Sam Jackson Park Rd where you will follow it to the right into the top of downtown Portland.

You will end up on 5th Ave, at this point you can take whatever route you want. The end destination is Jameson Park in the Pearl District between 10th and 11th and Johnson St. Elevation is about 40 feet.

Some of the downhills we will break 35mph on, it's possible to keep your speed under 25 mph if you're not comfortable with that.

HELMETS REQUIRED.
ABILITY TO FOOTBRAKE REQUIRED.
