I've been trying to get my son to do this (see thread) to his wheels since bearing cleaning is not one of my favorite things to do:

If you wanna protect your drop, cut up some old milk cartons or some kind of juice container and use them as fenders on your board to prevent spray. The link Judy left you is good too, using gorilla tape really helps prevent penetration from the water outside, and covering your bearings in white litium grease is good too, it's extremely water resistant.

scotch guard!
that and clean your bearings after you take your board out in the rain.

Don't ride it. That'll keep everything squeaky clean!

I saw that Shaner had tape on the outside of his wheels to keep water from coming in. thought that was a pretty good idea.
