Re: Cathlamet Downhill Corral
Cathlamet is not a series race so no points applied. This will be the first fully legitimate race that PDXDownhill is putting together. The roads will be closed, hay bails, ambulance, insurance, camping, and a large cash prize (donated by Rip City) will be your reward for coming out to this race. Also take note of the dates, this is the weekend before Maryhill so be prepared to be functionless after the long week+ of skating!!

The hill is very similar to Sully. Slow straightaway off the push for a couple blocks, easy 90 degree left, 2 blocks of steep and then a sharp 90 degree right, then 2 block so of REALLY STEEP into downtown and a really hard left, another block of steep and then a last 90 degree left to the finish.
I tried to make a map out of dashes and Ls but it didn't work.

I really don't think the roads need to be censored, since I doubt anyone is going to drive all the way out there and then decide to try and bomb across a highway into downtown Cathlamet, but here's a map.

Re: Cathlamet Downhill Corral
Maybe pics will help answer that question...

This is where it crosses main street, you can take a hard inside line and hope you don't slide out at the bottom of the turn, or stay to the right and thread the needle between utility access in the road, and hope no one taking the inside line takes you out.
Assuming you make that turn, you still have to make a hard left just before the white building...

Overall course:
Casey's graphic is better than this though.
This is a virgin hill - some of the local kids have done it but not in protective gear so not going all out, and they were not trying to make that hard left at the bottom. We do not want to be going out there tying to practice The town has been very welcoming to the idea of this race, but already realize they have a problem with the local kids. They want to make this an annual event, assuming we can make a good impression this first year. Yes it will all be closed off, permitted, hay bales, event insurance, shuttles, corner marshals, the whole nine yards.
Also, this is a two day event, with a push race on Puget Island and slalom race in town, both on saturday. Those wanting to make a weekend of it, there will be ample camping at the marina in town - everything is walking distance.
And on the subject of points, I just talked to Ozman today and there is interest in making it an IGSA sanctioned event. Basically everything he wants/needs for it to be IGSA legit is in the works, it's probably more a timing issue or if it's in our best interest to be under that umbrella.

Re: Cathlamet Downhill Corral
Don't let IGSA take it over if they make you compromise anything, one of the reasons we didn't do McNar IGSA is because they only have certain dates they can do it on, and that date wasn't one of them, even though it would bring in way more people already there for Maryhill. I know Ozman is looking for another NW race for his regional thing, but their interest isn't on raising money for the clinic. No offense to the IGSA.

Understood and seconded. And the only real benefit to us is getting some advertising from IGSA. Long term it might be more valuable to be an IGSA event, but I'm not going to kill myself to make it happen this year. Billy had a question regarding whether being IGSA would make it open to bikes, luges, etc, and I'm not sure if especially this first year we can ask that much of the town.

That last corner would be impossible on a luge.

Yeah I'd say you guys should keep complete control over it...no need to drag the IGSA into it. We want the money to go to the right cause and we all know how to promote a race, so I wouldn't think attendance would be a problem without them. Looks like a super fun course!
